We Are Six!

I never did a big 5-Year Anniversary Celebration last year, but I also didn't want to let the day slip by without noting that it was 6 years ago today, on my old BillyBlog, that I "introduced" Tattoosday. See the original post here.

Appearing weekly for a bit on BillyBlog, until September, when Tattoosday earned its own URL, this is our 1522nd post, and we have racked up 1.7 million hits and 2.5 million page views.

I want to thank everyone who continues to support Tattoosday, including the tattoo community as a whole, but especially my readers, first and foremost.

It’s a battle of support as Hennessy Artistry rolls out the official list of potential artistes to perform on the Hennessy Artistry Club Tour 2013 with Dbanj in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja in the coming weeks.

Police, Hoodlums Accused Of Killing Undergraduate, Friend

Culled from Punch

Policemen attached to the Badagry Police Division, Lagos State, and some hoodlums have been accused of killing a 25-year-old undergraduate of Delta State University, Ifechukwude Nwainokpor, and his friend, identified simply as Kazeem.

An eight-minute video clip of the gruesome killing, which was made available to PUNCH Metro, showed the two victims handcuffed together. They were covered in their own blood and beaten to death with sticks. Tyres were also put round   their necks.

An irate mob could be seen in the video, shouting, “die, die, burn them, burn them.”

At some points in the video, a policeman was seen interviewing the boys. He asked who sent them (victims) to rob the area, an accusation they denied. One of the hoodlums, holding a sharp object attempted to cut off the private part of one of the victims.

Nwainokpor could be seen pleading with the hoodlums and policemen to spare his life, saying he could identify himself if given a chance. His plea, however, fell on deaf ears.

Our correspondent, who visited the family of Nwainokpor on Tuesday, learnt that the lynching took place around 3pm on July 21, 2013 in Ajara area of Badagry, a community not far from Nwainokpor’s family home.

His father, Samuel, told PUNCH Metro that his son was arrested while passing through a street in the area  but a misunderstanding later ensued and the hoodlums pounced on  him  and Kazeem.

He added that  Nwainokpor, who was nicknamed Ify, was a final year student of Geology and Mining.

He said, “On that particular day, I was in Ghana when I received a telephone call  that I should come immediately. My wife was in Delta State taking care of her   mother.

“When I arrived two days later, my relatives and the caretaker of my house  told me that my son was killed in the Ajara area along with his friend. I was devastated.

“I got my son a  temporary job with a Customs licensed  agent since their lecturers were on strike.  He worked everyday except on Sundays when he visited his  friends. On that day, he went to see Kazeem and they were strolling around Ajara.”

Samuel said because there had been a robbery in Ajara four days earlier, some of the residents were on the lookout for strange faces.

He added that when the youth  saw two unknown young men, they  accosted them and an argument ensued.

He said the youth  called the head of the vigilante group   in the area, one Asiribo.

He said, “Asiribo came to the scene with a locally-made pistol and handcuffs. He handcuffed my son and his friend  before asking them questions.

“Later, it was decided that the boys be taken to the Baale, Agano Oniyon of Agamade Ajara. But as they were going, Asiribo, while trying to return his gun into its pouch, mistakenly shot himself in the stomach and died.”

Samuel said Asiribo’s death infuriated the youth, who  blamed the boys for  his  death.

“The mob picked up sticks  and beat them to death. Policemen were there,”   he  said.

Holding back tears, the retired immigration officer   added  that the police treated the matter as a robbery case. Beating  his chest,  Samuel said there was no way his son would have been involved in  armed robbery.

He said, “I have been living in Badagry since 1982. I have only two children and Ifechukwude is the first. Ironically, he was born in that same area where he was killed.

“I have lived in this area without any trouble and  the residents  can tell you that my sons are good  boys.”

Nwainokpor’s boss, Aloysius Onyenibedi, described him as an honest and hardworking person.

“I trusted him to the extent that I used to keep a lot of money with him. He was good to my children and was honest,” he said.

The Nwainokpor family berated the Divisional Police Officer, Badagry Police Station,  Dankoli Mohammed, for the manner he treated the case.

Samuel said when he approached the DPO, he was told that his son was killed at midnight for armed robbery.

He said, “When the policemen came to take the corpses, guns were planted on them. Policemen at the station told the DPO that they were robbers. Their corpses were taken along with that Asiribo to Badagry General Hospital’s mortuary.

“The following morning, the DPO released Asiribo’s corpse for burial without investigation. My relatives went to the station and after showing the DPO the video, the matter was transferred to the Area K Command.

“At Present, Asiribo’s son has fled, while the DPO has been unable to identify the policemen who were present at the scene when my son  and his friend were killed.”

PUNCH Metro however learnt that through the video, some people had arrested one of the perpetrators. The suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department,  Panti, Yaba.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, said, “The incident is quite pathetic. Even if they were armed robbers, no one has the right to take the life of another. Why then do we have the police and the judiciary? The Nigerian police as well as the law condemn mob action and jungle justice. The commissioner of police has set up a high- powered investigation body to investigate the matter.”

RE-Baby Weighing 6.10kg Born Without A Caesarean Section... A Readers Perspective

Hi Ladun,

I would like to raise this issue. Yesterday there was a news on your blog about a baby that weighed about 6kg delivered without c section. Marvelous. I am married with two wonderful kids and delivery was normal and the gynecologist was very thorough and professional. I was very impressed. I am tempted to mention his name and hospital but I'll hold it so that this message will not be misconstrued.

Having said that, I must say that over the years i have observed (through friends and family) that majority of medical personnel in Nigeria are so quick to do c section on  our women most times when it is not required. It appears the financial implication (more charges ofcourse) is more important to these doctors. I am so sure of what I am saying because I have seen this happen over and over again. Even the big names elite private hospitals are not left out. Like I said, they are not all guilty, but it is sad that the majority are involved in this scandalous practice.
Please let other readers share their experience, and let the doctors explain wetin dey! haba!

Do you agree with her? Have you experienced this? Do share with us.

Davido Kept It Fresh For Hours In Bed With Me- Pendo, Kenyan Girl Boasts

Some of you know Davido just returned from Kenya right? Well there has been a particular girl who has been granting a tell it all interview about how she had sex with the music star while he was in Kenya. According to her, David kept it fresh for hours. 'He' is big in LENGTH and WIDTH. Such a bad girl, lol. Read what she has to say in one of the interviews below. Oh ye Kenyan ladies.

So what is all this wahala about Davido blocking you off of his facebook?

Pendo : If people had done even a little research, they would know that Davido does not even have a Facebook account. I NEVER said I was in touch with him through Facebook. I got in touch with him through a good friend of his *redacted*  and that's where everything started. He did the intro.

So, seriously, did you sleep with Davido?

Pendo: Errrrrrrrrrrm (laughs cheekily) (There is IRREFUTABLE proof that Pendo did spend the night with Nigerian superstar, if you want to see it plead with her on twitter @LoveStaicey to release it.) In the meantime, have this picture of Davido, topless, in his hotel room from his personal instagram. Maybe Pendo took it #troll

So why did you do this? Do you do this for money?

Pendo: (Laughs) No, I didn't get money from him. I didn't WANT money from him. I did it simply cuz I find him hot and he is pretty legit in the music industry in Africa. Yeah, I am attracted by his talent, his fame, his power, but honestly, who isn't? And people are talking so much because a lot of women wanted to be in my shoes, but were not. I'm not afraid to go after what I want. That's just me. And I am unapologetic for it. I am content that I got what I wanted -which was to know him- and I guess it just naturally progressed from there...

So was this a one time thing then?

Pendo: No, I would do it again. Gladly. I don't regret it at all.

Of course you know now I am gonna ask about the "D". Free reign, choose your own words to describe it.

Pendo: He was perfect.

Nooooooooo, more than that. DESCRIPTION.

Pendo: (Laughing) Ok, ok. Errrrrrrrrrrm, he is much better than your "average Kenyan". He is big. Both length and width. (Giggles) And best part is he REALLY knows what he is working with.

Haha, so you loved ALL OF HIM. (SN: Hehe, see what I did there?)

Pendo: (Giggles) Ha, you won't let this go will you. Haha, no seriously though, he has CRAZY moves, he kept it fresh for a couple hours. I am impressed. Definitely the best...(hesitates) Ok maybe not the best I ever had, but he is up there.

So was this a one night stand or will you be seeing him again?

Pendo: Davido is not only a good lover but a gentleman. Not only did he not publicise the affair, but he left me with some personal mementos to remember him. I don't think a one night stand does that. Plus there is still communication going on. I'm not saying we are dating, but we are definitely still talking. He did not "hit it and quit it".

A Tale Of A Pastor And His Sacred Milk

Valdeci Sobrino Picanto is a Brazilian Evangelical Pastor. He has been arrested after deceiving the faithful using the name of the "Holy Spirit", by saying foolish lies.

He said his penis was blessed and that "the Lord had consecrated him with divine milk of the ''Holy Spirit" and, of course, he had to release it in order to "evangelize".

"He has convinced us that only God could come into our lives through our mouth and that's why he would do what he did". Often, after worship, pastor Valdeci would take us to where the funds were kept at the back of the Church and asked us to have Oral sex with him until the Holy Spirit would come through ejaculation". This is the testimony of one of his victims.

The pastor is already in jail, but said he intends to continue watering his cellmates with his sacred milk.

Photo: Woman Sets 11-Year-Old Maid Ablaze Over Piece Of Meat

From Vanguard

Policemen at Bode Thomas division of Lagos State command, Tuesday, arrested a woman who allegedly set her 11-year-old house maid ablaze in Surulere area of Lagos, for stealing a piece of meat from her pot of soup.

The maid identified as Ita Bassey-Eno who reportedly escaped death by the whiskers, is currently at the Burns and Trauma Centre of the Gbadaga General Hospital, with doctors battling to save her life.

Although her mistress, a staff nurse at an undisclosed hospital in Surulere, Mrs Nkese Iroakazi, reportedly denied the allegation at the police station, the ailing girl was said to have managed to state that she allegedly poured kerosene on her before striking a stick of matches to set her on fire.

The incident, as gathered, occurred last Saturday at 7, Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, after  Ita rushed out of  the apartment with fire on her, apparently in an attempt to plunge into a gutter. Unfortunately,  she reportedly fell before she could get to  the gutter.

One of the residents was said to have succeeded in putting out the fire with the aid of a fire extinguisher, before she was rushed to the hospital.

Eyewitness account

A resident who simply identified herself as Morakinyo told Vanguard: “I was just alighting from the bus when I saw people gathered in front of the building. When I got there, I saw Ita whom we all call Eno on the floor. Then, the flame had been put out.

“Two men who attempted to carry her into a car could not because the skin at that time had peeled off. They had to get a slab, placed her on it and rushed her to the hospital. From what I gathered, the girl has spent barely one month in Lagos before the incident.

“She was brought from her village in Akwa Ibom State last month alongside another girl called Happiness. Since then, we have not seen either of them going to school.

“We heard that while Happiness was in the sitting room, there was a cry from Ita in the kitchen and before she (Happiness) knew what was happening, Ita rushed out of the kitchen and straight to the road shouting for help.

“How could someone who has children of her own treat another’s  like this? It was even the residents that alerted policemen who came to pick Mrs Iroakazi.”

When Vanguard visited the hospital, Tuesday, a doctor who spoke on condition of anonymity  expressed fear about the  victim’s condition, revealing that she suffered  95 per cent  burns.

“It will take a miracle for her to survive. In any case, we are trying all we can to ensure she gets back on her feet. That will entail some surgeries because her private part was badly damaged.

“Currently, she wears pampers and that area needs immediate surgery after the injuries would have healed.”

Ita was sighted with bandage all over her body, except her face and feet. When a nurse approached her to administer the day’s treatment, she groaned in pains.

As at 3 p.m yesterday, police sources told Vanguard that the suspect would be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba  for further investigation.

Happy 30th Anniversary Betty & Soni Irabor

Betty and Soni celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary yesterday and here is what Betty said  about marriage;

We do have our roforofo moments but we work it out. A marriage where couples don’t communicate and bear grudges is likely to be an unhappy one.  Talk it over and don’t keep digging up the past. Forgive…forgive…forgive. What I know for sure is that Christ is the foundation of a good marriage.

Having said that, I would like to add that when the time comes for anyone to choose a life partner, choose a partner who is not embarrassed to say “I am sorry” when he is wrong and never makes you feel small so he can appear taller.  Marry for all the right reasons and never for what you can get out of it when you haven’t put anything in.

Marriage takes Two: They say the future of a marriage lies in the hands of the woman but I say it takes two. Marriage is one of the world’s biggest collabos between two strangers. It has no manual; you learn on the job.

The Trial Of Three Lebanese Nationals Facing 24 Counts Of Terrorism, Money Laundering Begins

The federal government, Monday commenced the trial of three Lebanese nationals charged with six charges of terrorism-related offences at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The prosecutors also filed fresh charges, sixteen counts of money-laundering and illegal importation of goods, among other crimes, against the accused persons. They pleaded not guilty. The prosecution called three witnesses, who were mainly officials of the Department of State Security Service (DSS), to testify in the case.

The foreign nationals – Mustapha Fawaz (49), Abdallah Thahini (48) and Talal Ahmad Roda (51) – were charged along with their companies – Amigo Supermarket and Wonderland Amusement Park Resort.

Among the new charges filed against them, that they conspired and engaged in unlawful importation of prohibited firearms between 1988 and 2008 in Kano.

The prosecution witnesses, who was hooded for security reasons, told the court how they investigated the case and recovered arms and ammunition from the accused persons’ premises.

The first witness identified as DSS1 told the court that he coordinated the investigation and that the accused made voluntary statements where they admitted being members of the militant group, Hezbollah – which has been labelled a terrorist organisation by the United States.

The second witness identified as DSS2, led the team that conducted searches on the Wonderland Park and Amigo Supermarket, where they recovered arms and ammunition.

He, however, stunned the court when, upon being asked to read the inventory of the items recovered from the two premises, (about 45 items) most of the items, except three, were not related to arms and ammunition.

They were common items such computer accessories, SIM cards, travelling documents, camera, and identity card, among others.

The third witness identified as DSS3, told the court how one of the accused persons, Thahini, was arrested at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano with $61,170 while allegedly trying to leave the country.

The trial resumes at noon today (Tuesday), to enable the prosecution file and serve the defence copies of written statements of its remaining five witnesses.

Why You Should Date In Your University Days- LL Reader

I'm writing this letter just to encourage the men that haven't found their better half. Let me tell you this short story. I met my boyfriend in the university and we've been dating since then. Been almost 4yrs now and I tell you, he (MTL) is the best thing that has happened to me.

He's not entirely rich, and he's not poor. But he gives me what he has and what I ask from him. And no, I'm not ugly, poor, cripple, blind or dumb. I'm a pretty and an intelligent girl. We may have our problems (which are usually mighty) but I've got his back and he's got mine. I appreciate him and I tell anyone who cares to listen.

Back to men. When the right girl comes your way, you'll know. Don't look for the richest, the most popular, the best dressed, etc. Look for the girl that sits at the back of the lecture hall and has an A at the end of the semester.

Look for the girl who is an SU than a girl who prefers clubbing every Friday night.  Look for the girl who would rather study with you than use your money to pay someone who will write her exams for her.
Marriages these days end in divorce because you don't know who you're married to. A person's character is better revealed in the university because that's the first opportunity the person has at freedom. Be guided!

Tattoosday in the Berkshires: Bob & Sue's Excellent Tattoos

Back in June, we took a trip up to the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts to drop my older daughter off for a summer program in Lenox. I had anticipated seeing some cool tattoos on the weekend trip, but came up empty-handed. That is, until we were headed back to New York, and took a small detour in Stockbridge, MA, where I ran into Bob and Sue.

We spotted the couple in a shop along Main Street and talked to them about their tattoos. They had been up at Tanglewood the night before to hear the Boston Pops perform a "Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration," which made sense, when we took a closer look at Bob's tattoo:

Bob explained:
"The sun is from the Filipino flag - it's my heritage. The hills are covered with trees from New England, that's where I grew up. The road is not straight, it's narrow ... that [Yamaha Stratoliner] is based on my bike, and I'm a Grateful Dead fan."
The artist is Canman out of Visions Tattoo Gallery in Medway, MA.

Sue shared these two tattoos:

This portrait, inked six months ago, depicts their children, who are in their thirties now. Their daughter is twelve in the portrait and this, too, was done by Canman, as was this other piece on Sue's opposite arm:

This piece is about four years old, yet it's still fairly bright.

Thanks to Bob and Sue for sharing their tattoos with us here on Tattoosday!

Award-Winning Music Video Director Jailed For 90 Years For Fathering Six Children With His Own Daughters

An award-winning music director found guilty of fathering children with his daughters will spend the rest of his life in jail.

Aswad Ayinde, 55, of Paterson, NJ, was sentenced to 50 years in prison Friday after being found guilty in the second of five expected trials in which he is accused of repeatedly raping his six daughters, resulting in six children being fathered. Mr. Ayinde was found guilty in his latest trial of having intercourse with his daughter when she was as young as eight-years-old. The second sentence adds to the 40 year sentence Mr Ayinde received in a 2011 trial for sexually assaulting a separate daughter.

Mr. Ayinde is known for directing the music video for the Fugees 1996 smash hit ‘Killing Me Softly.’

In a disturbing disclosure during his first trial, Mr. Ayinde’s former wife said he was trying to create a ‘pure family bloodline’ by impregnating his daughters. He even claimed during a pre-trial hearing before the first trial that 'the world was going to end, and it was just going to be him and his offspring and that he was chosen.'

In this latest trial, it was revealed that Mr. Ayinde began having intercourse with his second daughter from the time she was eight-years-old, impregnating her four times.

The sexual assaults happened for almost 30 years until Mr. Ayinde and his wife separated, officials said. They occurred in numerous homes across northern New Jersey, even while the family was under watch of state child welfare officials, according to NBC New York. Some of the rapes even took place in an abandoned funeral home.

The family moving as far away as Florida to avoid investigation after case workers removed multiple children from the Ayinde household in 2000, resulting in Mr. Ayinde being arrested for kidnapping for trying to take them from state custody in a medical center, NBC New York reported.

He pleaded guilty to lesser charges and received a year’s probation – as he continued raping one daughter for at least another two years, according to officials.

The depraved father also beat and starved the girls using wooden boards and steel-toed boots for even ‘minor transgressions,’ Ayinde’s wife testified at the first trial.

Some of the children Ayinde fathered with his daughters were born in the home, with at least two babies who died in the home having been buried without notifying authorities or obtaining birth certificates, NBC New York reported.

Mr. Ayinde also fathered 12 additional children with an additional three women, according to court records.

Ayinde’s tortured daughters were home schooled and isolated from other children, so as to keep the family secrets hidden, the station added.

With his wife too afraid to confront him, Mr. Ayinde carried out his evil plan without hindrance even while directing the music video for the Fugees 1996 breakout hit ‘Killing Me Softly, for which he won  ‘Best R&B Video' at the 1996 MTV Music Video Awards. The Fugees are also originally from Northern New Jersey.

Mr. Ayinde faces three more trials over the alleged assaults.

Daughter Of Pastor Who Converted To Islam Speaks

Most of you read her story here, 'Pastor Battles Etsu Nupe Over Daughter’s “Forced Conversion” To Islam' below. In this new post, Aisha granted WEEKLY TRUST a one on one interview, where she admitted no one hypnotized her to join Islam. Click below to read her interview.

The conversion to Islam of 25-year-old Charity Uzoechina, daughter of Pastor Raymond Uzoechina of Redeem Christian Church of God, Kwankwashe, Suleja, continues to generate controversy. Her father accused the Estu Nupe Alhaji Yahaya Abubukar, of hypnotizing his daughter, who has since changed her name to A’isha, to embrace Islam. A’isha, who hails from Asaba, Delta State, came to Abuja at the age of 10 when her father relocated from Lagos.

After her secondary school education at Army Day Secondary School Asokoro, Abuja she got admission into Federal Polytechnic, Bida to read Public Administration. She, however, withdrew from the course in her first year. She embraced Islam on February 15, 2013. A’isha said since her family relocated to Suleja, Niger State, she has been in the midst of Muslims, which accorded her the opportunity to have several Muslims friends and learnt a lot about Islam.

The travails of A’isha began when she ran to the Estu Nupe’s palace in Bida on March 1, this year to seek protection against any aggression she may face should her family know about her conversion to Islam. This led to a controversy that is still ongoing, with her father accusing the traditional ruler of kidnapping his daughter. Along the line, several meetings were organized between A’isha and her father Pastor Uzoechina and his daughter at the instance of the Estu Nupe, who also involved some members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

But despite that, A’isha refused to follow her father, alleging that he has threatened to deal with her by taking her away to a place that she will not be able to practice her new religion. A’isha has taken the matter to a Shariah court in Bida and the court is expected to rule on August 1, 2013 whether or not the 25-year-old should be released to her parents or not. She speaks exclusively to Weekly Trust.

Excerpts: Weekly Trust:

What is your name?

Aisha Uzoechina: I was formerly known as Charity Uzoechina and now A’isha Uzoechina. Why the change of name? I changed my name because I have accepted Islam.

What brought you to Bida?

I came to Bida in 2012 to read Public Administration at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida.

Are you still a student of Federal Polytechnic Bida?

No, I am not. I have withdrawn from the school.

Did you go back home?

No, I did not go home. At the beginning I was planning to go back home, because I wanted to tell my father that I have converted to Islam. When I converted, I was afraid to tell my parents, because of the way my father would behave. I know he will not take it lightly with me. So, for that I refused to go back home.

Did anybody force or enticed you to join Islam?

I joined Islam on my own. Nobody enticed me with anything to join Islam. What informed your decision to join Islam? I converted to Islam because I love the character of Muslims, particularly the way they behave. You know Muslims believe in God. I have Muslim friends and I watch what they do, that enticed me to join Islam. I used to read Qur’an when I was a Christian. I always join them to read Qur’an and through that I found out that it is the same one God they worship. So I embraced Islam.

How did your father come to know about your change of faith?
When I ran to the palace, I told you, it was very difficult before I could see the Emir. When I saw him, the emir refused to accept me, because my father did not know about it. He, therefore, collected my father’s number from me and called him. The following day my father came and said he wanted to see me. When we met we talked one on one.

What did you tell him?

Well the emir told him that I have converted to Islam. When my father talked to me, he said let’s go home, but I refused. I told him that I will not change my faith, because I have already accepted Islam and this is where I want to stay. He, therefore, threatened me so much so that I became scared of him.

What did he do to you amounting to a threat?

In the first place you know, I put on Hijab (veil), he said I should remove the Hijab. He was angry and used some harsh words on me, directing that I should remove the Hijab, but I refused. He threatened to take me to a village where nobody will set his eyes on me. So I became scared of him, therefore I refused to follow him. That is it.

Did the emir intervene?

The emir gave him one week to come back, but he came back even before it reached one week. He said he must take me home. He will not take me to our house, but he’ll take me to somewhere that nobody will set his eyes on me. I quickly ran back to the emir and to the Shari’a Court for protection. I don’t want to go back to my father, because he is threatening me.

How did you come to know about the Shari’a Court?

I found out from people. I went to them on my own to formally lodge my complaint.

Why Shari’a Court?

They have to protect me. You know when you take a case to court over life threatening issue, the court must protect you. That is it.

Did your father come back after you refused to follow him?
He came back. He kept on coming back. The other time he even threatened to bring some people to kidnap me.

Is it true that at a time your father came with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) officials to you?

Yes.
Is it true that you also went to the Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI)?

Yes.

Why did you go to JNI?

I told you and I’ll still repeat it, though I don’t want to repeat my words again. I want them to intervene on my behalf, the threat is too much. Now I can’t go anywhere, I cannot even continue with my schooling. I cannot do anything because of the way he has been threatening me. He is still bringing people up till now to keep watch on me.

How do you know that your father has assigned people to keep watch on you?

There was a time that I wanted to go out, information came to me that my father was around and I had to stay back since I don’t want him to take me away. I know that if I gout anytime,I he’ll pick me up.

How did you come to know about JNI?

I have been reading about them. That is why I went to them.

How did you present your case to JNI?

I wrote to them seeking for their intervention, because I do not know how to go about convincing my father. I also learnt that the emir wanted to hand me over to my father, because the burden of my case is becoming too much for him to bear.

If your father should promise to allow you to practice your new faith, will you go with him? I’ll not. In a family that you are the only Muslim, how can you practice in that house?

You know when he (my father) came along with my mother the other time, his actions and the harsh words he used, even if I go back home, my life will not be secured in his hand. That is why I said I’ll not go.

Did you start learning anything about Islam?
Yes, I started learning how to perform ablution. I have learnt how to recite Surah Al-Fatihah, I am now in my second surah.

Do you pray five times a day?

Yes I do. I am even fasting now. I have been fasting since the beginning of the month of Ramadan.

What is your massage to people wanting to join Islam?

I have only one massage. Islam is good. Muslims are truthful, everything they say, they believe in God and they carry people along. Once a person converted to Islam, he’ll be carried along until he is strong to stand on his own.

What is your appeal to your parent?

I am appealing to my parents not to be angry with me. My conversion to Islam will not separate us. I still love them, even though I am here. They can come and visit me and I can also visit them. They shouldn’t think my new faith will take away the love I have for them. It will not. I am very sorry

Lagos State Government Will Seal Your House If You Display Clothes Outside Indiscriminately

The state Commissioner for Environment, Mr Tunji Bello, yesterday after the monthly sanitation exercise said, the State Government will seal up any building where residents display their clothes outside indiscriminately.

According to him, spreading of washed clothes on fences, frontage of buildings and bridge railings have become the norm in some parts of the state and the practice constitutes a nuisance to the environment. Tough actions would be taken against erring persons. Houses where compound residents also hang their clothes outside will be sealed, Mr Bello concluded.

LAWMA officials have also been directed to pack those clothes as refuse wherever they see them.

A post from the surface of the sun

Earlier today i was sitting in the office, sweating my ass off, thinking "it's too hot to blog!" and then i remembered that Allan is doing three tattoos today, a Sunday, and i decided to not be a dick and maybe just post a little something.
Work solidarity, you know?
Also, the shop is probably the coolest place in a city that's burning up.

Ok, news!

I'm still booking from Uncle Allan's waiting list, so be patient, i will post here when we're taking bookings and for which months.

Matthew is currently designing our new shop business card and it's looking rad so far, very excited to see it finished!
But in between his business card painting and bike riding, he does have time for tattoos, so email him to book in, there are plenty of openings coming up: matthewgordon@live.com.au.

Uncle Allan will be going to the London Convention in September, as usual, and also as usual, he'll be doing walk-ups only.
So the deal is the same as it has been for the last couple of years: come by the booth, pick some one-of-a-kind flash, get tattooed, be happy!
The Aussies will stay in Berlin this time, so if you're in Berlin and want to get tattooed at the studio last weekend of September, just get in touch with them.
I will however be bringing prints and stuff from everyone at the shop, so stop by the booth and see what we have.

We have a bunch of guest artists coming up, all of them pretty much around the same time, early October, and i will be doing separate posts on each of them in August. Yeah, that was a teaser, but i promise i'll let you know soon (hint: i already put two of them in the news section!)

If you have emailed me about merch and i haven't replied, i'm sorry, that whole part of the shop is still a mess, but i'll get on it and get back to everyone real soon, promise!

I recently realized that i haven't really posted that many photos from the new studio, and i wanna do something about that, so we're gonna try to take some decent pictures soon, so you all can see how pretty it looks (really, it's very pretty!)
But until then, here are a few shots from around the studio, as well as a few new Uncle Allan pieces, and Wendy's new awesome business cards!

How's that for a 36 degree Sunday update?!
Yeah, not actually that impressive, i know, but just let me think i'm being all productive, ok?

Pastor Battles Etsu Nupe Over Daughter’s “Forced Conversion” To Islam

This is a must read people, no jokes.

When Miss Charity (Aisha) Uzoechina, 24-year-old daughter of a Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, left their Abuja home to further her studies at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State, her parents had no inkling that it was the beginning of many days of sorrow.

Instead of the formal education she traveled to acquire, the young Christian girl is now allegedly pursuing her new faith of Islam at the palace of the Etsu Nupe.

For the parents, the pain is not just that Charity has abandoned her Christian faith, but that she now stands completely separated from them.

She was alleged to have converted to Islam on her own volition and changed her name to Aisha.

However, contrary to these claims, Pastor Raymond Uzoechina is insisting that his daughter is a victim of forced conversion to Islam.

The RCCG Pastor has, therefore, called on security agencies to investigate activities at the palace of the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, to ensure that many people there had not been forced to convert to Islam and held against their will.

He said: “Apart from my daughter, there are so many people at the palace. There is need for the police to investigate and ensure that the people are not suffering the fate of my daughter”.

Pastor Uzoechina believes that his daughter was kidnapped and hypnotised.

Narrating the genesis of the problem, he said it all started on March 1 and 2 when he got a call from an aide of the emir, asking him to come to the palace.

On getting to the palace in Bida, he said he met his daughter with two other women, adding “the man said these women brought my daughter to the palace that she has embraced Islam and she has also been withdrawn from school. Those women even claimed they have taken her through the rudiments of Islam and have started looking for a school for her. At this juncture, I demanded that I am going home with her. But the man declined, saying only the emir has the power to allow the girl go with me. They took me to the emir but the emir refused my plea, saying I should come back next week.”

He continued that on March 4, two people who claimed to be from the Bida Sharia Court emerged with his daughter with a folded paper and asked him to sign but he refused.

Pastor Uzoechina got the greatest shock of his life when he tried to take his daughter but was told that she was now under the custody of the Sharia Court.

The Sharia Court 1, which said it arrived at the decision because the girl claimed her father could kill her following her change of faith, also accused the defendant (Pastor Uzoechina) of shunning an invitation to appear before it to defend himself.

“At this juncture, this honourable court hereby orders that the custody of the plaintiff be entrusted in the hand of Etsu Nupe for the time being and the Etsu Nupe should employ a qualified Islamic scholar who will be teaching her and showing her what the Islamic customs is all about and the plaintiff can even be watching and selecting a man of her choice whom she will want to marry as her partner”, the court held.

In this state of confusion, Uzoechina said he had appealed the decision of the Sharia Court 1 through his lawyer, Anthony Agbonlahor.

The lawyer also petitioned the Chief Judge of Niger State, complaining about the conduct of the judge of the Sharia Court 1, Justice Abdulkadir Idris, saying that the court had no right to take custody of the girl.

“Contrary to the principle of natural justice vis- a-vis fair hearing, our client was not served either with the court summons/processes or hearing notice. The case was filed on March 4; the case was heard March 4 and judgment delivered on the same day. In fact, judgment was also executed on the same date. The question is: why the urgency?”, he wondered.

Also, Pastor Uzoechina is still bemused over the fate of his daughter as well as the decision of the court.

According to him, “They (sharia court) have fixed Thursday, August 1 for ruling on our appeal that they don’t have jurisdiction. You can’t judge a Christian in a Muslim court. I am appealing to them to vacate the judgment because they don’t have jurisdiction.”
How can I kill my daughter?”

Concerning her daughter’s alleged fear that he would kill her, he said “That is not true. My daughter cannot make that allegation. Why should I kill her? We asked them to bring her to the court so that my lawyer can cross-examine her but they refused.

“If she has converted to Islam, must she practice at the Etsu Nupe’s palace? Is Etsu Nupe the chief security officer now? They should not separate me from my daughter. She has stayed in the palace for six months. If they say I will harm her, let them release her to the Inspector General of Police, leader of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN or ask me to write an undertaking. Why is my daughter still under Etsu Nupe’s enclave? I am only talking about my daughter; there are so many people at the palace. There is need for the police to investigate and ensure that other people are not suffering the fate of my daughter. They did not allow my wife to see my daughter when she visited the
palace.”

Be that as it may, the Etsu Nupe is not in any way moved by the Pastor’s arguements, instead the emirate has produced legal documents where Charity reportedly said she had converted to Islam and alleged that his father could kill her for the action hence the need to seek protection from the Palace and the Sharia Court, which the court granted.

The Etsu Nupe has refused to release the lady to his father citing the sharia court ruling.

The emirate also absolved itself of the allegations of kidnapping and hypnotizing the young Christian girl.

It said in a statement that Miss Uzoechina approached the monarch for protection over her change of faith from Christianity to Islam on February 15.

It continued that “the royal father invited the father of the girl for talks, with the hope of reconciling them. On March 2, the father came to the palace and was taken before His Royal Highness. It was at His Royal Highness chamber that the father came face to face with his daughter. After discussions with the girl and her father, the Etsu Nupe asked the girl to go back home with her father to resolve the matter as a family.

“The girl refused to go home with her father fearing that the father may harm her going by the encounter at the Etsu Nupe’s palace. The girl left the palace and approached a court in Bida for protection, a request which the court granted the girl. The girl has since been in the custody of the court in Bida. Her reason was that her father insulted her and she was scared that he may harm her because of his utterances during their short meeting.

As it stands not, it will take only the court for the young girl to be re-united with her family. The long awaited August 1, 2013 ruling of the Bida Sharia Court 1 may not even be the end, but beginning of a long legal battle
