Not even the heavy downpour witnessed in Aba yesterday could prevent music fans from enjoying the exhilarating performances from some of Africa’s finest artistes who had come to perform at the highly anticipated 5th leg of Star Music Trek,
The event, which held at Recreation Club Aba, was touted as Aba’s biggest open-air concert and witnessed a deluge of fans, many of who came in from cities as far flung as Enugu, Port Harcourt, Nnewi and other surrounding environs to watch the event.
Apparently the ‘Limpopo fever’ had reached Aba far earlier as Kcee mounted the stage to wild cheers from the crowd. The singer’s most popular hit of the year, ‘Limpopo’, has stayed number 1 on a number of music charts across the country and gave a good account of himself singing other tracks including Nack Me and Okpekete.
Wande Coal had no problems entertaining his captive audience. From the moment the Black Diamond sang his first verse to the last notes of his latest hit ‘Rotate’, the artiste had only to raise his microphone casually to receive the thunderous crowd’s response to his every line. He also sang Bumper to Bumper, You Bad, The Kick and others.
Performing right in his ‘hood’ with thousands of his fans hanging on his every rap, Mr Raw already had an ‘unfair’ home advantage. The artiste worked the stage effortlessly for 45 minutes with his classic Obodo, Ise and Strong Thing’ much to the delight of eager music lovers.
Budding rap star, XBUSTA who was discovered in Enugu by MI was also invited to free style on stage during his performance.
Naeto C’s fervent prayers apparently had the right impact on the crowd raising it to fever pitch as he interrupted his performance to invoke blessings on the crowd. He also performed his award winning hits 10/10, 5&6 and Can You Do It? during his 45 minute set.
Timaya’s exhilarating performance capped a stellar night. The Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa performed barefoot in the pouring rain-remember Tiwa Savages’s performance?- churning out hit after hit at the request of the fans. The popular artiste took time out to delve into the crowd repeatedly performing Malo Nogede, Plantain Boy, Bom Bom and many more hits.
Timaya could not refuse pleas from the audience who urged him to continue performing even after his allotted time had expired
The 10-week music tour has visited FESTAC, Lokoja, Owerri, Enugu and Aba bringing thousands of music fans from different cities to selected concert venues across the country.
Nnewi, Asaba, Abeokuta, Agege and Surulere are some of the other cities Star Music Trek will also visit during the tour.
The Trek ends on August 10, 2013 with a Grand Finale at the National Stadium, Surulere in Lagos.
