Last year we got a pleasant surprise from a reader named Patti, who shared a stunning floral sleeve, which we posted in September.
One of the problems with interviewing people with sleeves is that it is hard to document the great work, especially when I've met them on the street. Even a collage of sleeve segments doesn't always do justice to the amazing workmanship and detail that goes into the hours of creating a sleeve.
Fortunately for me, and by extension, you the readers of Tattoosday, Patti has stayed in touch, and she just sent me the link to a YouTube video chronicling her new peacock sleeve. Check it out:
Patti's amazing work was done by Ben Reigle (who also composed the music in the clip) at Blueprint Gallery in Hadley, Massachusetts.
Thanks to Patti for keeping me posted on her new sleeve!

Felicia Shares a Cool Peacock and an Homage to Her Favorite Horror Films
A few months back, I met a woman named Felicia in Penn Station. She has several tattoos, but she offered up this particular peacock from her forearm:
Felicia credited this to an artist named Thor at Three Monkeys Tattoo in downtown San Diego. I wasn't able to track down either the artist or the shop, so I may have misheard, but I guess that's beside the point.
In the end, we have an original peacock that differs from a lot of the more realistic attempts at peafowl we have seen in the past.
Felicia also sent me this piece a few weeks after meeting her:
Felicia explains:
Thanks to Felicia for sharing her work with us here on Tattoosday!

"I told you I'd send over my favorite tattoo, which I had hidden under tights at the time. See attached for a photo of the tattoo after it was freshly done [top], and then a photo of what it looks like now [bottom]. This is the cover art for the film Suspiria, one of my all time favorite horror movies. I came up with the concept of creating a blackout piece behind my calf, and decided Suspiria was definitely a film worthy enough to cover such a large amount of space."

Amy's Stunning Peacock Tattoo
Sometimes, my little camera just doesn't cut it - like on a late summer afternoon with a bright sun low on the horizon.
I met Amy as she walked passed my office back in August. I caught up to her just as she was about to go into Penn Station and I snapped these photos of her peacock half-sleeve:

Amy credited her artist Benjamin Harris at Sink the Ink Tattoo & Body Piercing, which has locations in Doylestown and Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. Amy says Ben has "been my one and only tattoo artist for years and he's great"!
And, fortunately for us, Sink the Ink had a great photo of this tattoo up on their website:

Two Peacocks for a Tuesday
Back in June, I met two women on separate days who had peacock tattoos.
First was Charlotte, a filmmaker who I spotted on the uptown 3 train. I snapped these pictures when we got off the subway at 72nd Street:
Charlotte credited Daniel Albrigo as the artist, who did this when he worked at Brooklyn Adorned. He now tattoos out of Three Kings in Brooklyn.
She explained that she "wanted something beautiful to offset the Kali tattoo on her right shoulder".
A week later I met Emily near Penn Station, who had this different perspective on the peacock, inked on her calf:
Emily explained:
Thanks to both Charlotte and Emily for sharing their very different peacocks here on Tattoosday!

"My mother used to work at a school in Dallas, Texas, where I'm from, that has peacocks that roam wild on campus ... when I was a child I used to go play with them (or just watch them)."Emily told me she "drew it and designed it with the help of Dave Wallin." Dave tattooed this when working at Tattoo Culture in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, but he now works out of Eight of Swords Tattoo Studio.
