I met Blaise on a sunny spring day near the corner of 8th Avenue and 33rd Street.
He has a lot of ink, the majority of which was tattooed by Alex McWatt of Three Kings Tattoo in Brooklyn.
Blaise pointed out the sugar skull in the center of his arm:
This is a sugar skull with a twist - note the rainbow spilling forth from the jaw and, in case you can't tell from the photo, that's a shark riding the rainbow wave.
Blaise singled this out because the tattoo was conceived in partnership with his little sister. It refers to a project they had done together.
Thanks to Blaise for sharing this cool tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!

An Anonymous Half-Sleeve from the Subway
This is an orphan post - I ran into the subject on the West 4th Street subway platform back in April. She consented to my photographing her half-sleeve but, before I could get any info, including her name, her train rolled in and she left me in the station with only a few photos.
I asked her to e-mail me with details, but two months later, I still have not heard from her, so I figured I'd just share what I have, which are the photos:
If anyone knows this tattoo and can get the host to e-mail me so, at the very least, I can credit the artist, please send her my way.
The combination of skulls and flowers, including the cherry blossoms, makes this quite a lovely piece.
Thanks to the young lady who shared her ink, wherever she may be. Her anonymous contribution to Tattoosday is greatly appreciated!

NICK.
My boy Nick even through out all the pain, stood hanging in there like a true champion. There is still a lot more to come on this project, so stay tuned...
Be Still
I love tattoos comprised of words. When done well, they are fascinating.
The phrase "be still" on the inner left forearm of Tara, above, has a simple and beautiful meaning.
She explained that she understands the phrase as the only expression that is common to the Bible, the Koran, and ancient Hindu proverbs.
The tattoo artist used the font Dear Joe 4 and this was done at Stingray Body Art in Allston, Massachusetts near Boston.
Thanks to Tara for sharing her words with us here on Tattoosday!

New t-shirts are here!
Oh, it is a big day at the shop today!
This morning, on our way to work, we took a little detour to pick up our brand new t-shirts.
I can't tell you how long it's been since we've had any... cause i seriously can't even remember!
But it's one of those things people ask for pretty regularly, so it will be an absolute pleasure to finally be able to say "why yes, of course we have t-shirts for sale!"
The t-shirts are Tultex fine jersey, a soft pre-shrunk cotton on a charcoal-like black.
They're not like American Apparel thin, but they have a nice worn feel to them.
We have no girlie fit, but as you can see in the pictures below, a small fits a small girl just fine.
As for men's fit, Allan is usually somewhere between a medium and a large, and medium fit him best, so if you're in between sizes, you might wanna order down one size.
Sizes are small, medium, large and a few xl.
They will be for sale at the shop, of course, but also right here on the blog, just visit the merch section and one can be yours! I will ship out once a week, probably Fridays or Saturdays.
Hope you like them as much as we do!!

Me in a size small
Allan in a medium
And this is what it will look like if two people each buy one and wear it at the same time!
While you're here, don't forget to scroll down and read about our next walk-in day.
It's coming up soon and we hope to see a lot of you here!
Karen's Order of the Elephant
Coming home from the New York City Tattoo Convention last month, I ran into Karen on the R train in Brooklyn. She had this unusual tattoo on her left arm:
It is inspired by the Order of the Elephant, the highest honor bestowed by the King of Denmark on its citizens.
Thanks to Karen for sharing her tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!

June 23rd, an invitation
Ok, i just noticed that our secret (up until now) event is less than two weeks away, so now might be a good time to let y'all know what's going on!
In short, our not-so-secret event will be a walk-in day with cool flash from Uncle Allan and Chriss Dettmer, kind of like Halloween but without the costumes (unless you really wanna dress up, we won't stop you and we certainly don't judge!)
The theme (cause you gotta have a theme) is.... witches!
See, the 23rd of June in Denmark is Sankt Hans evening, and here in Denmark, without getting into a recent history lesson, that means lighting up a giant bonfire, that occasionally will have a model of a witch on it, and singing a bunch of midsummer songs.
And that's all very nice (and who doesn't like a bonfire?) but we've decided to celebrate witches in all their awesomeness instead of lighting them on fire!
So if you think you might like a witch, or occult, or witch related, or pagan tattoo (cause, who knows what they're gonna come up with?) by either Allan or Chriss or maybe both, please drop by the shop on the 23rd of June at 4 pm, or later, and join us for some midsummer fun!
The tattoos will be individually priced, and will not be custom or one-time-only.
If the weather is good (which of course it will be, right?) we'll have the door open until late at night, and refreshments of some kind will be served as long as we have them!
Usually there'll be a bonfire on the lake, so you'll have a chance to go down and see that too.
You know where to find us:
